Canberra Rooms

Today the children were told their rooming arrangements for our Canberra trip. There was a lot of time and consideration put into the list and children were consulted before it was published to AIS today. If there are any issues please contact us, however, it will almost impossible to make changes at this late stage. It is important to remember that the majority of the time spent in Canberra will be on the bus or with their bus groupings. The room at night is mainly for sleeping. It was therefore important that the children had their friens on the same bus and we have been able to achieve this, with most having many friends on the same bus.

We have asked that the children do not bring phones…it is only 2 nights….if they need to contact you we will arrange that where appropriate. If you need to contact us in case of an emergency we will provide a number before our departure. Please do not contact us to see if they are okay, if they are not be assured that we will contact you.

YEAR 6 CANBERRA EDUCATIONAL TOUR

Dear Parents and Caregivers

As part of the HSIE unit of inquiry “Who has the POWER to decide?” studied in Term 1, a Canberra Educational Tour has been organised for Year 6 students. The tour is booked from Wednesday, 3rd May to Friday, 5th May, 2017 (Week 2 of next Term). Students will travel by chartered coach to Canberra, with exclusive use of the coach throughout the duration of the tour. The itinerary for the 3 day tour has been organised to include an array of interesting educational activities covering a range of Key Learning Areas. Students will participate in HSIE activities that focus on Australian Parliament and history, as well as Science, Drama and Physical Education learning experiences. The teachers accompanying the children will be Miss Nafranowicz, Mrs Bergan, Mr Devlin and Mr Bamford.

Accommodation during the tour is at the Australian Institute of Sport. All meals are included, except morning tea and lunch on the first day (Wednesday).  These must be brought from home in a labelled plastic bag.

A packing list for clothing is attached; please ensure you pack what is on the list. We strongly encourage you to check the weather forecast for Canberra in case the weather is cooler/warmer than anticipated. As we will be attending the formal venues of Parliament House on the last day, students are to wear their OLOR school jersey with pants.

Please do not over pack. Children are NOT permitted to bring iPods, Gameboys, portable Playstations or mobile phones. Children can bring a camera or their iPad but need to take individual responsibility; the school will not be responsible for any lost or damaged items. Children may also bring spending money [no more than $50] for a souvenir if they wish.

Your child’s permission slip, medical form and AIS forms must be completed and returned to school by next Monday 3rd April 2017.

Medications

Any medication required will need to be given directly to Mrs Bergan on Wednesday morning (prior to departure) in a plastic zip lock bag with your child’s name and instructions of use.  (Puffers will need to be kept in your child’s backpack).

We will be departing at 6:30am sharp on Wednesday 3rd May.

Please be at school by 6:00am to facilitate with the loading of the coach. Parents and caregivers please ensure that you do not park in the bus zone. The coach is expected to return back to school at approximately 6:30pm on Friday, 5th May (allowing for traffic coming into Sydney). Please contact the school office if you would like to confirm the schedule of the coach that afternoon.

No additional food/lollies

We would appreciate if parents/caregivers only send recess and lunch for the first day and NO OTHER food items. The students are provided with more than ample snacks and main meals each day which should keep them satisfied.

We are looking forward to a fabulous, fun-filled educational tour of Canberra with Year 6!

Yours sincerely,

Miss Nafranowicz, Mrs Bergan, Mr Devlin and Mr Bamford

(Supervising teachers)
